Accessibility has become something that all Small and Medium Businesses should be aware of and have action plans for.

In 2005, Ontario added legislation as part of the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR) called the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities (AODA). These standards and practices are in place to ensure that people with disabilities have the same access to information on the Internet as those without.

This can include things like colour contrast and font size and audio options for visuals for the blind and hard of sight, close captioning and volume controls for the deaf and hard of hearing and other elements.

The standards outlined in the IASR are developed specifically to facilitate the maximum amount of people.

I hear you say – I’m not a government agency, in Ontario, or a member of the public sector – why should I accommodate these standards and practices.
